Iceland’s Of Monsters And Men Introduce Themselves To Australia With Debut National Tour

Written by Al Newstead on 13 June 2012

Icelandic indie six-piece Of Monsters and Men have been generating a huge buzz in North America and Europe, the anticipation of when they may be hitting our shores has been palpable, and now the news is out there; Of Monsters and Men are making their Australian debut with three shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

The group first appeared on the international radar playing an early slot on Iceland’s renowned Airwaves Festival in 2010, with critics beginning to catch on to their contagious indie pop sound. Their music carries a dynamic live energy mixed with folk charm and fist-pumping choruses. Earlier this year, the band made their SXSW debut playing packed houses across Austin, getting the attention of the rest of the world as one big band to watch in 2012. Nylon Magazine described their single ‘Little Talks’ as “What might very well be the catchiest song of the year” and described their performance “Everyone started dancing and clapping, and the band – who had already played, oh, six shows by this point—looked just as happy as the rest of us. And that’s saying something.” Vanity Fair decided they “proved they were worth the hype” and Rolling Stone Magazine tells us to “expect them to be all over the American indie radar soon.”

Of Monsters and Men’s debut album My Head Is An Animal was released in April this year worldwide through Univesal Music, heading to #1 on the US iTunes Alternative chart. In Australia, the band have hopped betweeen triple j airplay, blog love, and a growing fan base, echoing similar sentiments that locally, we’ll love them just as much.

The band have even made a sweet lil’ introduction video of themselves, which you can view after the tour dates.
