Bertie Blackman Announces New Album And Preview Shows For 2012
Australian maverick singer/songwriter Bertie Blackman is ready to unveil her latest and fourth studio album, and the first since her 2009 ARIA award-winning Secrets and Lies.
August 24 will see the release of Pope Innocent X , an album that promises to be adventurous, thrilling, and undeniably unique, the long-awaited follow-up to 2009’s acclaimed Secrets and Lies – a record which also took hom the AIR Award for Breakthrough Independent Artist.
“I’m feeling really proud about this piece of work,” said Bertie Blackman in a press release today, “it’s taken my whole career to get to a point to make something like this – I wanted to make my mark.”
Her make will be made across 11 tracks of visual, evocative storytelling: spiky, fertile pop blended with electrifying sonic tales and other-worldly, dark dares. It’s a musical mix that could only be conjured by Blackman, but realised with the assistance of producer/composer François ‘Franc’ Tétaz, who also worked on Secrets and Lies as well as with fellow musical visionaries like Gotye, Architecture In Helsinki and Kimbra.
Pope Innocent X forges yet another path into daring new musical territory for Blackman, with the first taste of her stunning results coming in the form of lead single, “Mercy Killer.”
A playful confession, “Mercy Killer” contains the undeniable sonic input of guest guitarist Kirin J. Callahan (Mercy Arms) and has already become one of triple j’s most highly rotated tracks, with an official release due on May 28 before Pope Innocent X drops on August 24.
Aside from an apperance at the sold out Splendour In The Grass Festival this July, Bertie Blackman will be performing a very special pair of shows to act as an album preview of Pope Innocent X.
