Coming off their big win for “Best Indie Rock Artist” at the Artists in Music Awards 2012 (Los Angeles), playing to a sold out crowd at the Key Club in Hollywood and being nominated for ‘Best International Artist’ at the LA Music Awards, the Monks of Mellonwah are gearing up to release their new EP – Neurogenesis.
A four-piece Indie-Rock band based in Sydney, the Monks of Mellonwah draw on many influences, past and present, to stamp their own unique and electrifying sound on the Alternative and Indie-Rock scene.
Neurogenesis – EP draws on a range of influences including Led Zeppelin, Foals and Muse, and celebrates a masterful yet unique blend of intense space, driving riffs and sharp metaphors, really honing in on those epic moments each listener longs to hear. Produced by Sydney producer Ryan Miller with two featured tracks mixed by grammy award winning Jeff Bova, the EP explores a range of concepts and sounds including Oppenheimer and the creation of the atomic bomb in ʻNeurogenesisʼ and dealing with the longing for life in Neverending Spirit. The EP was mastered by Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, Muse, Aerosmith, Red Hot Chili Peppers).
Since the Monkʼs first EP ʻStars Are Outʼ, the band has enjoyed significant community radio play across Australia. Their debut music video ‘Swamp Groove’ received first prize at Harold’s Shorts judged by Glenn A. Baker and was also ranked in AMRAPs top 10 most requested songs across community radio. More recently Kyoto, an early release from the EP – Neurogenesis, has enjoyed rotation on the new unearthed channel as well airplay on Triple Jʼs main station.
