UPDATE: The 2013 lineup has now been released

Australia’s most iconic music festival is turning 21 and with it’s coming of age, the Big Day Out is likely to undergo some exciting new changes.

One of Australia’s most esteemed annual music events already underwent some big changes at the start of the year, when festival promoter Ken West – following the dissolution of his business partnership with Vivian Lees – announced a new creative partnership with C3 Presents, the promotional brains responsible for Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits Music Festival.

An industry move that helped establish greater artist buying power and expansion of both the Big Day Out and Lollapalooza brands. The new partnership also helped create many opportunities for Australian and international artists to play across the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, and next week, BDO promises to release its full 2013 lineup along with a fresh, bold reinvention of the music festival.

We can confirm that the full Big Day Out lineup is to be announced at 12.01am (AEST) on Monday 16th July 2012 ( technically midnight Sun 15 July); with the festival telling Tone Deaf exclusively they have “two MONSTER headliners” planned along with “20 bands that have never played before” who all have new releases due before the end of year.

The Big Day Out also told Tone Deaf there will also be four new bands that have never visited Australia before, so super sleuths get cracking..

General tickets for the festival will be available from the morning of Thursday 19th July from www.bigdayout.com, along with an new all inclusive ticket price of $165, “No fees, no kidding!”

Not only that, but a pre-sale program has been set up in conjunction with General Pants that kicks off as soon as the festival bill is announced on Monday 16th July. Punters can purchase exclusive pre-sale souvenir tickets in General Pants retails stores all over the country; with every purchased ticket also offering the chance to win a trip for two to Lollapalooza in Chicago. Full details of the competition are available at www.bigdayoutblog.wordpress.com.

The dates have also been locked in, with Sydney’s usual Australia Day reservation being handed over to Melbourne this year, so grab a permanent marker for your calendars – the Big Day Out is back!
