Naomi Braun Announces Single and Melbourne Launch

Melbourne singer songwriter Naomi Braun is set to launch her first single Deeper, lifted from her new full-length album, Through The Devils Wood.  Deeper was serviced to media on July 2 and Naomi will be celebrating the forthcoming releases with a launch gig at The Toff on Thursday July 26,supported by well-known London hip hop artist and music producer, Lotek.

Often likened to Erykah Badu, Portishead and Santigold, Naomi has an impressive list of vocal styles and calls upon many different musical genres as she blends soul, dub, electro and spoken word to create the epic masterpiece that is Through The Devils Wood. 

The album is a collection of 11 beat-driven pop songs, all with a strong cinematic appeal.  Co-produced alongside Naomi and mixed by Lotek (Hilltop Hoods, Roots Manuva), the Londoner brings his signature fast paced skank and big horn sound to the mix, complimenting Naomi’s well-crafted songs.  The album features New York’s Johanny Paulino aka Gabriel on album track Live in Lies and also features a collaboration with Jamaican reggae masters Sly and Robbie (No Doubt, Grace Jones, Madonna) on the title track Through The Devils Wood.

The film clip for Deeper was produced by Independent Melbourne film company, Who By Fire and is set in a remote forest an hour out of Melbourne.  Inspired by Bjork’s approach to her musical career and always keen to do things differently to others around her, Naomi specifically chose to take on a more left-field, artistic approach to the film clip.  Despite owning a ladies fashion store in St Kilda, she ironically opted for her clip to have no appeal to fashion, but instead delve more in to fantasy.  In the clip, Naomi is dressed in robes and dusted in white clay, personifying a creature from a fairy story.  Her passion for this level of fantasy and mystery is also evident in the album artwork, seen naked and painted black, lying on an animal skin.
