Falls Festival 2012/2013 Announces 2nd Round Lineup
The festival season announcements are coming thick and fast now, and following on from the first round of acts announced for Falls Festival’s bill; we’ve now got confirmation of the second round of bands that are bound for Lorne and Marion Bay to help ring in the new year.
Joining a lineup that includes the psychelcious (Erykah Badu-baiting) headliners: The Flaming Lips, the fuzz-pop of Best Coast, Baltimore duo Beach House and dubstep linchpin SBTRKT. Leading the charge on the second round of acts is much-loved UK dancetronica outfit, HOT CHIP. Fresh from delivering their “upbeat and heartfelt” fifth album, In Our Heads, the London will be bringing their savvy alchemy of dance and modern pop music, and fresh tunes, to Australian crowds.
Adelaide’s own ARIA Award-winning hip hop trio, HILLTOP HOODS, will be bringing their reliably energetic set to Falls punters, along with rising British group BOMBAY BICYLCE CLUB and UK stalwarts MAXIMO PARK. While the folk contingent will get their dues with the arrival of FIRST AID KIT, with the Swedish sisters of Johanna and Klara Söderberg folding their lush harmonies together in the live setting.
Lastly, Brisbane quartet MILLIONS are also locked in. The garage pop marvels emerging from the supporting the likes of fellow musically-minded acts like Bleeding Knees Club and Unknown Mortal Orchestra to make the Falls stage their own. Then there’s TOTALLY ENORMOUS EXTINCT DINOSAURS, aka dance wünderkid Orlando Higginbottom, who’s already on the fast-track to global success with many a respectable feather in his young cap. Tweaking synths and beats in a mix of techno, dance, house and subtle nods to other genre medling.
It’s a banner year for Falls as well, with the Lorne site celebrating its 20th anniversary; while Tasmania’s Marion Bay location celebrates its 10th year. There’s true reason to celebrate too, following news earlier in the year that the festival site was rescued by a rich philanthropist from its financial struggles.
So what better way to celebrate than plan your camping trip, grab the confetti, load up the beat-up car and make your way to Falls to party with some of music’s biggest acts?

There’s a hell of a lot at stake when performing at a festival – potentially the biggest crowd of an artist’s career, being pitted against nature’s elements, sound and lighting that could go wrong at any moment. There’s the pressure to blow the act after you off stage, there’s the pressure to live up to hype and show that you are capable of pulling off a show on a massive stage. Mnay acts have come a cropper when trying to do this but many have risen to the occasion; the adrenaline and the massive crowds either overcoming them or proving that they are capable of being one of the best bands in the world.
