Pyramid Rock Festival 2012 Lineup Announced

Pyramid Rock Festival 2012 Lineup Announced

Written by Al Newstead on 7 August 2012

We’ve already had the announcements from larger New Year musical bashes, like the John Butler Trio-headlined Peats Ridge bill and the second round of bands locked in for Falls Festival; but not to be outdone, Philip Island’s Pyramid Rock Festival have just gone live with their own collection of acts that will be soundtracking the New Years’ celebrations.

Since its inception in 2004 as a one-day event, the Vicotrian music festival has swiftly grown into a two-day, New Years extravaganza, and this year makes no exception – even sharing a few acts with the Peats Ridge festival.

Namely, UK’s FRIENDLY FIRES, who will be performing a DJ set, while fellow British band, BLOOD RED SHOES bring their fantastic live show to Philip Island. Meanwhile, America will be represented by international headliners, US politi-punks, ANTI-FLAG as well as the Portland, Oregon-via-New Zealand psychelicious garage sounds of UNKNOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA.

Joining the international acts are a host of some of Australia’s finest home-grown talent. The hip-hop heads and ravenous rap fans will be excited by appearances from 360, ILLY and URTHBOY, while straight-up rock fans will find plenty to nod their head to in the form of CHILDREN COLLIDE, Melbourne up-and-comers KINGSWOOD, and the fine rock shapes of the Findlay sisters of STONEFIELD

Fans of Australia’s hard and heavy breed will be satisfied by the inclusion of prog titans KARNIVOOL, and Melbourne’s DEAD LETTER CIRUCS and CLOSURE IN MOSCOW; as well as hardcore acts HOUSE VS HURRICANE and DREAM ON DREAMER.

Successful indie roots artist XAVIER RUDD will be bringing his tunes to bear on the New Years crowd, along with the likes of LUKE MILLION, PHESTA, HANDS LIKE HOUSES, DCUP and more.

Taking place at the regular Philip Island site from Saturday, December 29 2012 to Tuesday, January 1 2013.

Ticket prices have yet to be released, but general public sale will begin on 9am on Tuesday, September 4.

There’s a hell of a lot at stake when performing at a festival – potentially the biggest crowd of an artist’s career, being pitted against nature’s elements, sound and lighting that could go wrong at any moment. There’s the pressure to blow the act after you off stage, there’s the pressure to live up to hype and show that you are capable of pulling off a show on a massive stage. Mnay acts have come a cropper when trying to do this but many have risen to the occasion; the adrenaline and the massive crowds either overcoming them or proving that they are capable of being one of the best bands in the world.
