Dan Sultan Announces Indigenous Rights Concert Tour

Last seen stepping in for Gurrumul after he had to pull out November’s Gorgeous Festival, Dan Sultan has announced a new series of concerts to help raise awareness for issues facing the Indigenous community.

The Music Network reports that the ARIA Award-winning Gurindji performer has designed the shows, called Rock For Recognition, as helping promote the need for recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait peoples in the Australian Constitution.

Changing the Australian Constitution to recognise Indigenous communities requires a “successful referendum”, namely – two-thirds of Australians voting on the changes. A landmark feat last achieved in 1967 to recognise Aboriginal people as part of the Australian population.

Sultan is hoping that the Rock For Recognition tour, with the assistance of the likes of Yabu Band, Leah Flanagan and DJ Ken Eval who have been announced so far, will raise awareness through music.

Activist website, ANTaR - who works for “justice, rights, and respect for Australia’s First Peoples” – are helping with promoting the issues of Rock For Recognition, with more details and information on their website.
