After yesterday’s announcement of David Byrne & St Vincent headlining next year’s Tasmanian MONA FOMA Festival, it has been announced that the duo will also be gracing the stage of Sydney’s State Theatre with their new collaborative album, Love This Giant.

The organisers behind the Sydney Festival have announced their first three performances, including David Byrne & St. Vincent, for their 2013 program.

Other performances announced for the festival include the Latin street circus  Circolombia with their new show Urban, as well as the vibrant Semele Walk, an Australian exclusive backed by the outstanding Berlin ensemble Kaleidoskop which will join forces with The Sydney Philharmonia Choirs.

The Talking Heads frontman and previous Sufjan Stevens band member will perform their collaborative work Love This Giant on the Sydney stage on the 17th and 18th of January, which coincides nicely with the already announced dates for St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival for early next year.

Their Sydney Festival appearance boosts rumours that they are another possibility for the 2013 Laneway lineup. Other acts similarly rumoured based on leaked Australian tours include Cat Power, new indie supergroup Divine Fits, Brooklyn boho-popsters Yeasayer and the old-school guitar assaulters Japandroids; all who have let slip that they’ll be touring Australia early next year.

The Sydney Festival will be hitting town from the 5-27th of January across a variety of venues, so far announced – The State Theatre, Riverside Theatres and The Sydney Town Hall. Although all well respected and valued establishments, they’re interesting choices considering the festival’s outdoor motto of “This is our city in Summer.”

The early unveiling of Sydney Festival’s first three acts shows a new direction by first time director Lieven Bertel with a larger focus on fashion with the opera star Semele Walk being centred on a 30-metre white catwalk dressed in Vivienne Westwood couture.

The full lineup for Sydney Festival 2013 will be revealed on the 23rd of October,  the early release tickets will be on sale 9am Thursday September 13.
