Killswitch Engage Leads Third Soundwave 2013 Lineup

Killswitch Engage Leads Third Soundwave 2013 Lineup

Written by Al Newstead on 21 September 2012

Man, you’d hate to be a hard and heavy band and not be invited to play Soundwave, it seems like they’ve got half the world tied up into their lineup; and just when you thought it couldn’t get any bigger…

Following on from last Friday’s news that extra tickets to Soundwave 2013 would be released, a strictly limited number of extra tickets for Sydney, Adelaide and Perth went on sale at 8am this morning.

Due to popular demand over its ridiculously-sized lineup, the touring musc event sold out across the country, with tickets for Melbourne and Brisbane putting up sold out signs in record time . The music festival with arguably the biggest, bad-assest lineup of the new year has now gone and gotten itself larger again.

Today’s third, and what surely has to be final, lineup announcement adds to a festival bill that’s already fit to bursting with skate punk icons The Offspring, Blink 182, and Sum 41; as well as populist arena rock in Linkin Park, Garbage, and Paramore. Never mind some of the biggest names in metal, including Bullet For My Valentine, Stone Sour, Dragonforce and three of metal’s Big Four; Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax all locked in.

This afternoon, serial tweeter/festival boss AJ Maddah and his faithful Soundwave organisers added eleven more acts to the lineup.

A sneaky addition and leading the pack is American metalcore act KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, it will be the band’s first visit to our shores since the departure of longtime vocalist Howard Jones, with his replacement Jesse Leach stepping up to the mic at the start of the year.

Punk provocateurs THE VANDALS will be bringing their three-decade strong catalogue to the Soundwave stage, along with Austin, Texas metal classicists THE SWORD, UK stoner metal outfit ORANGE GOBLIN and Salt Lake City deathcore band CHELSEA GRIN along with hadcore band THE CHARIOT, UK’s SHARKS, and to round out the bill - DR ACULA, O’BROTHER, NORTHLANE and MILESTONES.

For those of you that already have tickets – it’ll be a final cherry on top of a very weighty sundae, for those of you who’ve missed out – well, you’d better pony up because those tickets just got a whole lot more valuable.

Did The Replacement Singer Suck?
Did The Replacement Singer Suck?

Let’s face it – the front man or woman of a band is usually the focal point of the group, and it’s their voice and image that we most readily identify with in the band. However, nothing last forever, and sometimes lead singers suffer from a case of exploding ego, which makes them insufferable to be around. In more extreme cases, those lead singers with over inflated egos, massive drug and alcohol addictions, and crippling insecurities often inconveniently die or commit suicide. Join us as we count down famous bands who have replaced their lead singers – some more successfully than others. Watch this slideshow »
