Blink 182 Soundwave 2013 Sideshows Announced

Blink 182 Soundwave 2013 Sideshows Announced

Written by Al Newstead on 26 September 2012

Following on from Soundwave’s third addition of acts to its mammoth 2013 bill, the likes of Killswitch Engage and The Vandals joined a lineup that already fit to bursting with skate punk icons The Offspring and Sum 41; as well as populist arena rock in Linkin Park, Garbage, and Paramore.

Never mind some of the biggest names in metal, including Bullet For My Valentine, Stone Sour, Dragonforce and three of metal’s Big Four; Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax all locked in.

That’s a lot of acts to put on potential sideshows, and following on from the announcement of the Linkin Park/Stone Sour double header shows for Sydney and MelbourneTriple M have leaked the official Sidewaves dates for the pop-punk luminaries who are topping Soundwave 2013.

Blink 182 will be playing four sideshows in Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney, while the venues are set to be confirmed for this Friday, according to Soundwave boss/serial twitterer AJ Maddah. Who originally planned to announce the Blink sideshows earlier, but “needed extra time in order to add 1 more show.”

That, along with the fact that Maddah had to find a new venue for the Brisbane sideshow after plans to hold it at Riverstage fell through.

These dates will be the first Australian shows from the trio since their last visit in 2004, and fans have been clamouring for a return from the band ever since. But drummer Travis Barker’s fear of flying, instilled by the tragic plane crash that claimed DJ AM’s life, had nearly put end to any hopes of the band’s taking the long trip down under.

Thankfully, he’s found some sort of coping mechanism and the band are set to play Soundwave 2013 and the newly-announced sideshows.

Top 5 Moments in Pop Punk
Top 5 Moments in Pop Punk

We recently caught up with Cyrus Bolooki, drummer for New Found Glory, who are celebrating their latest release, Radiosurgery, out 30th September through Epitaph Records. We asked him what he though the top 5 moments in Pop Punk were and he came back to us with this list. They're in chronological order, but he cheekily suggests they could also be taken as order of importance. Check them out! Watch this slideshow »
