Ringo Starr 2013 Australian Tour Announced

Ringo Starr may not have shared as much acclaim in his solo career as his former bandmates, yet his goofy sense of humour and amicable charm is sure to reignite your grandmother’s Beatlemania as he returns to our shores early next year, reports The Examiner.

With a little help from his friends, the All Starr Band, Ringo spoke of their recent North American dates saying: “The tour this summer was just great! I love playing with this band and I can’t wait to get back out and play with them again.”

Adding, “I am looking forward to revisiting Japan with the All Starrs and, of course, New Zealand and Australia. Peace and Love!”

Living up their name, the All Starr Band features Steve Lukather from Toto, Richard Page from Mr. Mister, Todd Rundgren, Mark Rivera, Gregg Rolie from Santana, and Journey drummer Gregg Bissonette.

The night promises classic Ringo hits spanning from his time with The Beatles, all the way up to his latest solo release, the bluntly titled Ringo 2012. Fans can also expect select cuts from members of the All Starr’s other projects, such as Mr. Mister’s ‘Broken Wings’ and blues standard, ‘Black Magic Woman’.

Dates for New Zealand and Japan have been confirmed, however the Australian dates are being held until Oct. 26. With a gap to fill between Feb. 9 in Auckland and Feb. 25 in Tokyo, it’s apparent that Australia will fit in between those dates.

The real question is rather how many shows he will be playing and where they will be hosted.

Though the touring schedule falls alongside those of Laneway Festival and Soundwave, it seems likely that this tour will remain a stadium affair, however with AJ Maddah announcing today that two more bands have been added to Soundwave’s already enormous line-up there is the slight outside possibility for the famed drummer to jump aboard with the likes of Metallica and Blink-182.

Ok, probably not… but check back next Friday when we’ll have the specific dates and venues.

Let’s just hope that it is actually Ringo who appears, unlike the recent debacle where EMI pressed the incorrect version of ‘Love Me Do’ when re-releasing the single, and Scottish studio musician Andy White appeared on the track instead of Starr. Whoops!
