Boasting an impressive lineup with the likes of My Bloody Valentine, The Postal Service, Blur, and The Jesus & Mary Chain, Barcelona’s Primavera Sound Festival, which is set to take place on the 22nd – 26th of May, has lost several of its artists as the three-day festival fast approaches.

Cult Australian rockers Crime & The City Solution have cancelled their European tour and will no longer perform on the third day of the Spanish music festival at Parc del Fòrum. Same goes for Californian buzz bands Foxygen and FIDLAR whose concerts in Porto and Barcelona have also been cancelled and will no longer tour Europe.

In an exciting move however, Aussie garage rock gods The Drones will now visit the festival in support of their impressive sixth studio album I See Seaweed.

The band will head to Spain to play a run of shows in support of their recent record that saw our Tone Deaf reviewer note the quintet were “pushing beyond their creative limits in eight expansive, exhilarating, essential additions to the Drones catalogue that are destined to be just as enduring.”

This week, The Drones will head out on a nationwide tour for the first time in two years, following on from their impressive curator duties at the ATP festival in February, playing dates around the country this April.

Come May, they will head to both incarnations of the Primavera Festival, the Balearic seaside Barcelona event, and the Portuguese offshoot Optimus Primavera Sound taking place in Porto, Portgual, with the same lineup on May 30th and June 1st. The Primavera Sound lineup already boasts the likes of Perth psych gods Tame Impala and notorious king of darkness Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

Another loss for the mammoth Primavera Festival comes in New York singer Fiona Apple, who has also cancelled her appearance – citing no specific explanation but reasons “beyond the control of the organisers of the festival”. Late last year Apple also cancelled her sold-out tour releasing a handwritten note explaining that she needed to be home with her dying dog (and best friend) Janet.

No other explanation has been given for the forfeiture of acts, but promoters have promised they will make up for the loss by adding British quartet Django Django as a feature of the festival in support of their hit 2012 self-titled album. Matthew Houck’s Phosphorescent will also join the three-day event with his Americana flair which culminated on his latest slice Muchacho.

The Primavera Sound lineup already boasts the likes of Perth psych gods Tame Impala and notorious king of darkness Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (who recently scored their first ever #1 with latest album Push The Sky Away) headlining the three day event. The festival continuously boasts a huge lineup and turn-out since it’s birth in 2001, with over 100,000 attendees each year now running across eight outdoor stages.

The down-under domination comes alongside news of Australians fitting the bill for huge international festivals like the UK’s Glastonbury Festival which boasts nearly every band in the universe, and a sneaky spot for Aussies Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Tame Impala, Jagwar Ma, and Xavier Rudd.

More Aussies are headed to Brighton music conference The Great Escape with Deep Sea Arcade, Jackie Onassis, The Griswolds and Kins heading to what many call the UK’s answer to SXSW. Then there’s Chicago’s Lollapalooza, which will see San Cisco, Knife Party, Atlas Genius and 360 making the trek to the US in August.
