Pioneering avant-garde artist and former Mrs. John Lennon, Yoko Ono will be making her first ever appearance on an Australian stage this November as part of the Sydney Opera House’s new ‘Ideas At The House’ arts showcase.

The 80-year old experimental musician and artist will be in Australia as part of a 90 minute “In Conversation” discussion at the iconic Sydney venue in a show presented in conjunction with the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia curator, Rachel Kent. Titled “War Is Over! (If You Want It)’ the discussion will see Ono talking about her long-winding career, including her experimental music and art, film-making, and ongoing political activism as part of the peace movement.

The Tokyo-born artist will no doubt touch on her infamous connection with The Beatles as well, helping co-write John Lennon staples like ‘Because’ and ‘Revolution #9′ before the pair’s post-Beatles collaborations, including the Plastic Ono Band, which the 80-year old noting that the band has a new release scheduled for this September.

Ono’s first-ever visit to an Australian stage for “War Is Over! (If You Want It)’ also coincides with Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art housing her exhibition of the same name; a retrospective that showcases five decades of Ono’s conceptual art, including “immersive installations, written texts, films, sound compositions and participatory art works which will involve you in a range of hands-on activities,” reads the MCA’s synopsis.

Yoko Ono’s Australian appearance follows her recent curation of the Meltdown Festival for its 20th Anniversary this past June. Highlights included performances from the legendary Siouxsie Sioux (sans Banshees) and Patti Smith, as well as a high-octane set from Iggy & The Stooges and the first ever live performance of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Double Fantasy album.

Yoko Ono’s Sydney Opera House ‘In Conversation’ appearance is on Sunday 17th November, from 3pm at the Joan Sutherland Theatre and tickets go on sale this Friday with prices ranging from $28 to $58.50 to catch the music and art icon.
