The second Soundwave 2014 Lineup announcement has landed, with a whole batch of new bands joining the hard and heavy music festival, including the much-anticipated third headliner to join Green Day and Avenged Sevenfold at the top of the lineup bill.

A number of the acts revealed in the next batch of bands have already been confirmed in various sources, including Cali-punks Zebrahead and Devil You Know, the new project from former Killswitch Engage vocalist Howard Jones, as well as New Jersey’s I Call Fives and Suicide Silence, with their brand new frontman. But there’s still plenty of surprises in the second official Soundwave 2014 lineup.

The biggest new addition is Atlanta Georgia metal favourites Mastodon, who arrive back in Australia for their first live shows since 2012; they grace the top of the new roll call of bands, along with Florida rock outfit A Day To Remember, who in Australia this past July, on tour with The Devil Wears Prada

Other new Soundwave 2014 additions include emo-rock stalwarts Jimmy Eat World, new emo archtypes Panic! At The Disco (both bands were heavily rumoured to appear), high profile Helsinki rockers HIM, punk heroes Pennywise, Glassjaw, and Less Than Jake, avant-metallers The Dillinger Escape Plan, nu-metal survivors Sevendust, and more exotic selections in French metal titans Gojira and Japanese legends Dir En Grey.

There’s also the surprise addition of Eagles Of Death Metal and Black Veil Brides, who were both heavily rumoured thanks to artwork for a poster from a New Zealand metal festival, as well as Satyricon, Crosses – the new side-project from Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno, British punk legends Stiff Little Fingers and two bands that are refugees from the cancelled Harvest 2013 lineup, Mutemath and Conor Oberst side-project Desaparecidos (but no Primus, hmm…).

Both are an interesting addition to the Soundwave bill as they both fall slightly outside the usual hard rock demographic, and especially given both were thought to be headed to Australia in 2014 for separate Harvest Presents headline tours.

There’s plenty of Aussie artists on the second Soundwave 2014 lineup announcement, with the UNFD roster getting a good look-in (with new international signees Hacktivist also on the bill). There’s hardcore successes Dream On Dreamer, indigenous charity helpers In Hearts Wake, and Deez Nuts. Additionally, there’s deathcore band Thy Art Is Murder, previously confirmed ska legends the Porkers.

There’s plenty to enjoy further down the Soundwave 2014 lineup too, including Californian four-piece Defiler, Soil, The Boss Hoss, Upon A Burning Body, Nostalghia, and more.

If you’re still not satisfied with the additions to the Soundwave 2014 lineup, then that may not be all. In the lead-up to tonight’s announcement, Maddah posted the following on his twitter, hinting that there would be a third round of bands to the 2014 edition of the event, including more international artists.
