The full St Kilda Festival 2014 lineup has been announced, with over 150 artists performing across 50 venues over the course of the nine day festival program.

Following on from announcing the first round of bands for the 34th edition of St Kilda Festival, revealing a list of the acts performing over at the New Music Stage, the full St Kilda Festival 2014 lineup program boasts a full complement of music running from Saturday 1st February through to Saturday 8th February and culminating in the the Festival Sunday on the 9th February, boasting seven stages worth of bands.

Playing the coveted sunset timeslot over on the Main Stage will be Art Vs Science, while the headline performances at the O’Donnell Gardens Stage will go to King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard as Bob Evans takes over the Alfred Square Stage.

The Main Stage, taking place on the sunbaked sands of St Kilda beach, will also host the likes of Aussie soul funk pioneers The Bamboos, Mat McHugh (of The Beautiful Girls) and his talented ensemble, the roots rocking duo of Busby Marou, St Kilda local and famed national singer Renee Geyer, rock rousers Kingswood and the winner of the New Music Stage competition at St Kilda Festival 2013, Shaun Kirk. Finishing off the night will be a DJ set from Alison Wonderland.

Over at the O’Donnell Gardens Stage there’s plenty for the alternative music minded fan to enjoy, including breakout Melbourne singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett and her band, The Courtney Barnetts, Ballarat dance rockers Gold Fields, indie producer-performer Oscar Key Sung, rising hip hop star Allday, and Triple J Next Crop-approved acts such as Dustin Tebbutt, Safia, and Sydney’s Wave Racer.

Headed by Bob Evans, the Alfred Square Stage features fellow singer-songwriter Kim Churchill, the searing blues rock of Chris Russell’s Chicken Walk, fun riffage from Sticky Fingers, as well as live sets from Mama Kin, Airileke, and The Perch Creek Family Jugband. “Festival Sunday’s line-up boasts an eclectic mix of artists to provide entertainment to a variety of ages and musical interests.”

Meanwhile, as previously revealed, the New Music Stage will once again an impressive mix of emerging bands, including the likes of House Of Laurence, Tully On Tully, and Private Life, and the stage presented by The Push sees rising MC REMi and Dylan Joel leading a pack of fresh musical faces, including Sarah Rzek, Baking Blind, The Legend of Barcelos, and Osaka.

Festival Producer Adele Denison anticipates that St Kilda Festival 2014 will attract more than 400,000 patrons to the event in February next year.

“Festival Sunday’s line-up boasts an eclectic mix of artists to provide entertainment to a variety of ages and musical interests with headline acts on the Main Stage, energetic beats at O’Donnell Gardens and chilled out sessions at Alfred Square, there is something for everyone to enjoy with friends and family,” said Ms Denison.

St Kilda Festival 2014 will open once again with Yalukit Wilum Ngargee: People Place Gathering in O’Donnell Gardens on Saturday 1st February featuring Yirrmal and the Yolngu Boys and headliner Buddy Knox Blues Band. The Live N Local program has, for the first time, expanded to take in South Melbourne and Port Melbourne, with more than 72 gigs taking place over 32 venues in the days leading up to the iconic Festival Sunday.

Other new additions to the 2014 program include the Remastered Myths Stage, taking over Catani Gardens from 6pm, and an audio-visual celebration of St Kilda, Palais Projection Mapping, which will feature on the façade of the Palais Theatre.

The 2014 return of St Kilda Festival, which is produced and presented by the City of Port Phillip and supported by the Victorian Government through Arts Victoria, follows a triumphant comeback after what had been a very tumultuous 12 months for the event.

City of Port Phillip council rescued St Kilda Festival from a potential cancellation due to budgetary concerns to offset a funding blackhole of $1.2 million, before Port Phillip council managed to urge the State Government to help shoulder the costs of running the event ahead of next year’s 34th edition.
