Sad news for the Aussie music festival market; less than one month out from its kick-off, all-ages music festival Push Over 2014 has been cancelled.

Set times for Push Over 2014, scheduled to take place on the Labour Day holiday of Monday 10th March, were revealed less than a fortnight ago, with a lineup featuring Aussie hip hop favourites (Remi, Pez, Chance Waters, Allday) and hard rock acts (The Smith St Band, Dream On Dreamer, Deez Nuts, Buried In Verona, The Bennies) playing across three stages.

A statement from organisers today however has confirmed that this year’s edition of Push Over – which has been running for 21 years and provided a platform for artists such as Parkway Drive, Killing Heidi, The Living End, and Silverchair – has been shelved due to poor ticket sales.

“We are disappointed to see ticket sales down on previous years, however we know we’re in the middle of a very tough summer music festival season,” says Push Over Festival Director Shane Wickens, referencing what’s been a less than favourable climate for the Aussie music festival market.

“It’s now time to revamp the model for the future. We apologise to the artists who have made a commitment to Push Over and to the music fans who have purchased tickets. Refunds are available at the point of sale.”

In the wake of the festival cancellation, a Push Over all-ages music stage will now be added to the Moomba Festival at Birrarung Mar – taking place on the same originally scheduled Push Over 2014 date of Monday 10th March. Details to be announced on The Push.

A fully supervised all-ages drug, alcohol, and smoke-free event, Push Over is managed by non-profit youth music organisation The Push and focuses on youth-oriented initiatives, such as the FReeZA Push Start and Triple J Unearthed band competitions, and the Push Underground hip hop showcase for emerging break dancers and MCs.

“Thanks goes out to all that have supported Push Over festival over the years – stay tuned for its return in 2015, bigger and better than ever!” concludes the press release.
