The biggest Splendour In the Grass 2014 rumour doing the rounds (and there’s a few), is that Outkast will be headlining the Aussie music festival.

That rumour now looks even stronger, thanks to the hip hop twosome outlining their 2014 festival tour itinerary – with a healthy Splendour-sized hole in their schedule in July.

Earlier this year, Big Boi and André 3000 set the blogosphere into a frenzy when they confirmed an appearance on the massive Coachella 2014 lineup (which stars a handful of Aussies).

The seminal Atlanta duo then followed up by revealing plans they’d “be the marquee act at over 40 festivals around the world throughout the Spring/Summer of 2014” as part of their 20th anniversary celebrations.

Following a trickle of festival announcements, Outkast have confirmed another string of appearances, completing the first half of their 40-date tour, as Consequence Of Sound reports. That leaves plenty of time for Outkast to potentially jet their way Down Under to make the three confirmed dates for Splendour…

While international fans can go gaga over the new festival additions – including Sweden’s Way Out West, Finland’s Flow, and Norway’s Oya – Aussie audiences can salivate at the gap that falls between Outkast hitting Forecastle Festival in Louisville Kentucky on the 18th July and OVO Fest in Canada on 7th August.

Why? Because that leaves plenty of time for the pair to potentially jet their way Down Under to make the three confirmed dates for Splendour – taking place at its Byron Bay home from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th July – to gift fans with festival-sized freakouts to ‘Ms. Jackson’, ‘B.O.B’, ‘Roses’, and Song of the Millennium: ’Hey Ya!

While Outkast have a long festival trail ahead of them, the pair have been working away on their own solo projects. Big Boi lived out his Game Of Thrones nerd fantasies by contributing a track to the HBO fantasy series’ new hip-hop mixtape Catch The Throne (no, that’s not a joke), with a cut called ‘Mother Of Dragons’ dedicated to Daenerys Targaryen.

The Splendour In The Grass 2014 lineup is also likely to include London electro-quartet Metronomy, based on a slip-up by frontman Joseph Mount in a recent interview, while the rumour mill also got a boost thanks to Splendour and Falls Festival announcing the lineup for a showcase at SXSW 2014 later this month.

That list includes US acts Skaters, Basecamp, De Lux, Drowners, and Tor Miller; plus UK artists Wolf Alice, Jetta, and BBC Sound of 2014 picks Chlöe Howl, Royal Blood, plus Australia’s own Gossling and Dune Rats.

Other artists rumoured for Splendour In The Grass 2014 include London Grammar, James Vincent McMorrow, Mikhael Paskalev, Sky Ferriera, and a ream of bands announced on the Fuji Rock 2014 lineup, which regularly shares acts with Splendour’s bill.

The Japanese festival features Basement Jaxx, Manic Street Preachers, Franz Ferdinand (whose eponymous debut LP recently turned 10 years old), Bombay Bicycle Club, Darkside, SBTRKT, Parquet Courts, The Strypes, The Waterboys, BBC Sound Of 2014 pick Jungle, plus Bloody Beetroots, and Australia’s own John Butler Trio.
