The first artists of the Vivivd LIVE 2014 lineup have been announced, once again bringing an eclectic selection of musicians to Sydney’s iconic arts and music event.

Topping the bill at the sixth edition of the festival, taking place this year from Friday 23rd May to Sunday 1st June (part of Vivid Sydney which runs on ’til Monday 9th June) is alt-rock elders Pixies. The indie rock legends will play an intimate four-night residency at the Sydney Opera House concert hall, marking the first live dates Down Under from Pixies since 2010, and their first with new bassist Paz Lenchantin (after losing two bass-playing Kims in 12 months).

From international to local, Sydney-bred electro duo The Presets are also on the Vivid LIVE 2014 lineup, the Groovin The Moo-billed duo will be performing ‘Timeline’, their collaboration with the Australian Chamber Orchestra described as an interactive “kaleidoscopic journey through 42,000 years of music” at the Opera House on 29th May.

Vivid LIVE will also feature several events featuring producer Giorgio Moroder, following the disco don’s profile rising back to prominence following his high-profile collaboration with Daft Punk.

The esteemed Moroder will be headlining a ‘Studio Party’, that will feature a DJ set from the man himself, as well as featuring in an exclusive Q&A session that prologues an orchestral celebration of his music performed by the UK’s 50 piece Heritage orchestra, both events on the 1st June. Pixies will play an intimate four-night residency at the Sydney Opera House concert hall…

In Vivid LIVE tradition, this year’s 18 day long celebration of “light, music and ideas” will also star ‘Light The Sails’. This year, the honour of casting stunning imagery onto the iconic sails of the Sydney Opera House goes to 59 Productions, the award-winning team behind the 2012 London Olympics Opening Ceremony and international exhibition phenomenon David Bowie Is.

“Vivid LIVE is the soundtrack of Sydney in winter,” said Sydney Opera House CEO Louise Herron in a press release issued today. “This year’s superb musical line-up, combined with the spectacular sails projections, will once again transform the Opera House into the greatest sound and light show on earth.”

More music highlights are expected to be announced when the full Vivid LIVE 2014 program is unveiled on Monday 24th March.

Last year’s Vivid LIVE featured live interactive 3D performances from Kraftwerk, world album premieres from Empire Of The Sun and Cloud Control, plus Bobby Womack, Underworld’s Karl Hyde, Sunnyboys, Gurrumul, Scott Walker, and more. It also saw the event stretching beyond the Sydney Opera House to external venues for the first time.
