Australia is being gifted with another boutique music festival this June and the event’s debut lineup is already locked in and announced.

Introducing HOLEANDCORNER (yes, in All Caps, FOLKS!), described as a “unique travelling indoor dance event that is spread over 2 huge nights in Melbourne and Sydney” presented by Mushroom subsidy Illusive and dance music group Fünf touring.

HOLEANDCORNER will be hosted at Sydney’s Hole Nightclub (as its namesake suggests) in Darling Harbour as part of the Vivid Sydney music program, while the Melbourne leg will take place at the Docklands’ Shed 14 “to pay homage to the city’s well documented rave era,” as organisers explain.

As for the artists that will be helping launch the new boutique electronic festival, the inaugural HOLEANDCORNER 2014 lineup features an all-international lineup headlined by British dance-pop favourites Hot Chip, with members Alexis Taylor, Joe Goddard (of 2 Bears), and Al Doyle delivering a DJ set that will “take you on a wild ride through the group’s very diverse record collection.”

Also topping the HOLEANDCORNER bill is US producer-performer Matthew Dear, the electronic avant-pop artist arriving for his second trip Down Under since releasing his fifth and latest release, Beams. The inaugural bill is rounded out by Spanish techno maverick Herny Saiz, Israeli house producer Guy J, Berlin scene favourite Cosmin TRG, and a set from American born, Netherlands based electronic artist, Xosar. Described as a “unique travelling indoor dance event that is spread over 2 huge nights in Melbourne and Sydney…”

The event, taking place over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, will also see the venues decked out with “immersive décor and amazing lighting installations … [transformed into] unrecognisable spaces to provide an extraordinary visceral experience,” say promoters Illusive and Fünf. There’s also a heavy empahsis on “state-of-the-art sound production.”

Fünf director Alex Haeusler says that depending on the success of the debut HOLEANDCORNER, there’s scope to make the series an annual event. Hoping to “do a number of these down the track… it all depends on how the public reacts to this one,” Haeusler tells TheMusic.

HOLEANDCORNER is the latest in a series of similarly-modelled boutique electronic events that have launched in recent years. Namely, the 2012 launch of Astral People and Yes Please’s OutsideIn festival, while last year introduced ListenOut (Fuzzy’s Parklife re-boot) and Groovin The Moo’s spinoff festival, The Plot.
