Even’s Sweet 16th Birthday is taking place at the Hi-Fi in Melbourne on Friday 21st May, as they celebrate being one of the country’s most loved bands. Fair dinkum, a quick whip around reveals that the Tone Deaf office has seen them at least 50 times between us, and my, haven’t they grown into a sweet young thing? This gig will be a who’s who of the music scene in Melbourne as the band’s hundreds of friends and fans come down for what will be a humdinger of a party.

Tone Deaf is also going to let the cat out of the bag – the mysterious band supporting them, billed as ‘The Stevens’, can now be revealed as featuring members of legendary paisley clad garage pop rockers, The Stems! Perth’s greatest purveyors of pointy boots and even sharper pop hooks had a sold out farewell tour around Australia last October, leaving fans left out in the street begging for tickets. While it may not technically be a Stems gig, it’s pretty darn close because the secret is out  – The Stevens are key members of The Stems and Even playing an all Stems set on the eve of The Stems European Farewell Tour. A never to be repeated one-off performance, making Even’s sweet 16th a celebration of the best 60s inspired powerpop ever produced from Australia….

This news just makes this bill, which also features the oestrogen fuelled high octane rock of The Dacios and industry buzz band Money For Rope, one of the tickets of the year!
