The Playground Weekender Festival has announced that it is delaying the festival next year until early March from its usual mid February slot. According to promoters, the reason is that they wanted to aim for a weekend where it wouldn’t be as hot as experienced in previous years.
They told their Facebook fans
“Hey Weekenders
We are excited to announce the dates for the sixth Playground Weekender Festival are :-
Thurs 1st to Sun 4th March 2012.
We decided to change the dates to March as it is a wee bit cooler but still hot instead of potentially roasting like the previous few years!
So its time to start planning your Saturday fancy dress and rally your festy buddies together for the next instalment of Weekender fun!
The onsale date and all star line up will be announced in the VERY near future x”
While music fans may start making their plans to trek to Wiseman’s Ferry north of Sydney to enjoy a weekend of bands and camping, we’ve been hearing lots of stories about the Playground Weekender Festival over the last few years and their unique track record of paying bands for performing at it, with rumours that bands are now asking for their performance fee to be paid in full up front.
Looks like one of the bigger bands to play this year’s festival didn’t ask for their money upfront and were forced to sue the festival. Architecture In Helsinki lodged a suit in July in the Federal Court chasing $24,200 off promoter Andy Rigby for their performance. It looks like the band’s fee has since been paid to avoid a court judgement that may have prevented the festival from operating in 2012.
