Having announced this year’s festivities will take place in the grand and historic State Library Victoria, the organisers of Melbourne Music Week 2016 have now unveiled a massive program that will make MMW’s seventh year its biggest yet.

Over nine days and nights, Melbourne will come alive with abandoned buildings, forgotten laneways, and some of the city’s most beloved as well as unexpected venues hosting feasts of audio-visual entertainment.

Punters heading into the city will be treated to performances from the likes of Swedish hip-hop sensation Elliphant, veteran New Zealand rockers Shihad, seminal Aussie industrial outfit Severed Heads, local indie heroes The Delta Riggs, and many more.

Hush: An Evening of Quiet Music at The Parliament will feature a performance from Dan Kelly, whilst MIND GAMERS has nabbed Sebastien Tellier, Daniel Stricker and John Kirby, Seekae will perform a DJ set, and The Drones will take over Melbourne Town Hall.

If that mention of The Delta Riggs piqued your interest, you’ll be able to catch them alongside Pierce Brothers when the MCG turns into a mini-music festival, with performances taking place in spaces normally off-limits to the public.

This year’s MMW Opening Night event will be Her Sound, Her Story: A Celebration of Women in Music, featuring Julia Stone, Ella Hooper, Mama Kin, Montaigne, Mojo Juju, Ecca Vandal, Elizabeth Rose, Airling, and Nyne performing each other’s songs.

Meanwhile, the folks at Good Manners will be hosting the festival’s official 2016 closing party at the MMW hub with a stacked lineup featuring HABITS, LUCIANBLOMKAMP, Planète, Rainbow Chan, Telling (Ben Abraham + Tim Shiel), and more.

This year will see Melbourne Music Week partnering up with Face The Music, Melbourne’s premier music industry conference. The annual two-day industry program will feature appearances from a range of industry experts from around the country and abroad, including Briggs and Tkay Maidza.

There’ll also be a celebration of 10 years of triple j Unearthed with a free party featuring performances from Allday, Northeast Party House, Ali Barter, and Alex Lahey. Oh, and we haven’t even talked about The Age Music Victoria Awards.

After honouring some of the finest musicians Victoria has to offer, the Age Music Victoria Awards After Party will invite MMW punters to get down with the likes of Melbourne Ska Orchestra, Camp Cope, and Tash Sultana (like we said, some of the finest Victoria has to offer).

As always, the annual Live Music Safari will be going down this year with more than 50 artists taking part. Some of Melbourne’s favourite live music venues will be opening their doors for a free night of gigs and parties.

Of course, this is just a taste of what’s on offer at Melbourne Music Week 2016. Head to the MMW 2016 website for more details. Tickets are on sale from midday Tuesday, 4th October (uh, that’s today, just FYI), so make sure you act fast because they won’t be sticking around.
