Debut LP is the appropriately-named first album from Young Hysteria, the diverse pop outlet for Australian singer-songwriter Jimmy Hawk.

Jimmy penned and recorded the new LP while living the troubadour lifestyle in London, composing his textured tribute to pop’s storied history on an assortment of trains, couches and floors – possibly contributing to the album’s melancholic theme: when “pipe dreams collide with sobering reality”.

Representing a shift from his earlier leanings into folk and rock, Debut LP is a half hour excursion into avant-garde pop, intended to “reconcile the innocence and hope of adolescence with the face value attitudes that emerge in adulthood”.

Lead single ‘This Is Not A Love Song’ provides one of the record’s lighter moments, painting a picture of “the bittersweet transience of life” through delicate guitar textures, while the record as a whole tiptoes along the line between joy and despondency.

Beautiful and contemplative, Debut LP is a strong first showing from under the Young Hysteria banner, and available now through First Love Records both digitally and on vinyl.
