It must be hard for any musician or band from Perth to generate a wind strong enough so that those in the eastern states will take notice.

It must be even harder when what you’re trying to make them notice is a niche genre.

Because let’s be honest, there is a fine line between doing swamp rock well and sounding like just another band with nothing new to offer. Luckily, The Floors are definitely the former.

The sound captured on Dead Beat, the band’s debut album, is raw and filled with earthy guitar tones and some nice slide work.

The members are veterans of the Perth music scene with Ryan Paul Dux’s fat bass sound providing the perfect groove while Ash Doodkorte’s jungle stomping drums round out the rhythm section flawlessly.

Luke Dux’s vocals command your attention as he summons the blues and drags you through a swampland of sludgey awesomeness. The live sound that runs rife through Dead Beat just adds to the already fabulous aural experience.

Packed with 11 songs of beat driven guitar twang, there aren’t many duds to be found here.

Clocking in at 38 minutes, The Floors know when to get in, deliver and get out before you lose interest, leaving you sweaty and wanting more.

Dead Beat sounds like a mix of the Beasts Of Bourbon, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and the Soledad Brothers and that is indeed a fine pot of hot.
