Renowned Melbourne band The Cat Empire return to release their fifth album Steal The Light as they celebrate ten years together as a band since their self titled album The Cat Empire in 2003.

The six piece have created 12 musical gems in their latest LP. The lyrical journey expresses an optimistic, colourful message as in tracks like ‘Brighter Than Gold’ ‘we are in the moonlight I’m with you brighter than gold’ layered over a sexy melody and beat.

The lyrics encourage their listeners to dance and live life to its fullest, a message evident in tracks like ‘Go’ and ‘Wild Animals’.

The beat of the album is representative of all nations, a feature that is evident as the bands multi-genre sound evolves into a wild fusion of melody and rhythm.

Songs like ‘Go’ is reminiscent of a fast paced mariachi band, the eponymous tune explodes into a latin arrangement contrasting the slow serious opening and ‘Still Young’ is a triumphant track with a beautiful melodic arrangement, a quick beat and colourful vocals.

The record changes it up in tracks ‘Don’t Throw Your Hands Up’ that oozes funk, ‘Wild Animals’ possesses quick lyrical passages with African influenced rhythms.

Steal The Light showcases beautiful melodies born of all different cultures and dynamic rhythms oozing with colour. It is a brilliant album and one of the best releases of the year thus far!
