There aren’t too many more shows that are as well connected to the day they are held on than seeing an acoustic show by none other than ex-White Lion vocalist, Mike Tramp.

While many were out having romantic dinners with their loved ones on Valentine’s Day, a select few decided to spend their night listening to power ballads stripped back to their purest form.

Throughout the 80s and 90s, White Lion graced us all with hard rockin’ songs of love, heartbreak, and misery, and tonight we were going to be enjoying them all in the most intimate of ways possible.

Armed with nothing but an acoustic guitar and his powerful, emotive songs, Tramp took to the stage and knocked out well known classics like ‘Wait’ and ‘Broken Heart’ amongst many lesser known gems from his entire back catalogue while also managing to include some fresh numbers from his soon to be released new album.

Simply put, Tramp is a storyteller, someone who has been through it all and lived to tell the tale.

Experiencing an era of music most only dreamed about; engaging the audience with amusing anecdotes from his life regarding his days with White Lion.

His reasons for these intimate shows? “I’m trying to beat Jeff Martin’s record of playing here every weekend,” Tramp was thankful that people chose to spend their Valentine’s Day with him and it show as he played for around two and a half hours.

One of the highlights of the show was a new song entitled ‘Hymn For Ronnie’ about the late Ronnie James Dio. A beautiful song praising the achievements and spirit of one of heavy metal’s finest vocalists.

To hear all of these songs played in this setting just seemed fitting. The vibe was right, the room was right, and the songs were nothing short of fantastic.

Tramp may have gotten older, may not ever be as cool as some of his peers, but he is still here today giving it his all and, well, the classics never go out of style.
