UPDATE: Carlos Santana has done some serious backpedaling and issued a statement via Facebook. He said the comments made during an interview for his upcoming shows in Australia and New Zealand were “regretfully taken out of context.”

Read the full statement below:

Many artists, pundits, and idiots have weighed in on this year’s Grammy awards, with a common complain being that Beyonce was snubbed in favour of Adele, who won five albums on the night.

Now Carlos Santana, who you may remember from playing variations of that ‘Smooth’ riff over different pop songs, has weighed in, and completely dismissed Beyonce as an artist while doing so.

“I think that Adele won because she can sing, sing,” Santana told AAP, probably while wearing that little hat.

“With all respect to our sister Beyonce; Beyonce is very beautiful to look at and it’s more like modelling kind of music – music to model a dress – she’s not a singer, singer, with all respect to her.”

Music to model a dress. We’re guessing that Carlos hasn’t checked out Lemonade yet. Man, it’s a cold one…
