End Of Year Readers Poll Results 2011
Another year has rolled by and keeping with our very recent tradition we held our annual readers poll recently to give you, the readers, the chance to tell us who you thought was the biggest wanker, what was the best tour, and who released the best record.
Some of these categories were won by a landslide, but some like the local single of the year and local tour of the year divided you up into multiple camps. Over the next few pages find out who the winners were and who just missed out on the glory of coronation by our readers.

Festival Of The Year
Winner: Meredith Music Festival
Meredith put on by all accounts epic an 21st birthday this year, fitting for Australia's most loved festival. The few lucky enough to score a ticket were treated to the sounds of Mudhoney, Cut Copy, and of course Grinderman who decided to hang up their boots for good at the end of their set.

Runner-Up: Big Day Out & Soundwave
A tie between two of the biggest festivals in the country, Big Day Out delivered a heavy lineup this year in an attempt to compete with the seemingly unstoppable Soundwave. Taking a shot across the bow Big Day Out booked the likes of Tool, Rammstein, and Iggy Pop, while Soundwave answered with Iron Maiden, Queens Of The Stone Age, and Slayer.

Biggest Fuck Up of 2011
Winner: Meat Loaf being booked for the Grand Final entertainment
Despite collapsing on stage multiple times leading up to his booking as the entertainment for the AFL Grand Final the sporting body went ahead with a performance. What took place on that fate full day took with ease the mantle of worst ever from Angry Anderson; a feat many thought impossible.
Following on from the carnage a war of words erupted between the singer and the AFL with Meat Loaf branding the organisation 'jerks', to which they responded calling his performance 'absolutely terrible'.

Runner-Up: Soundwave Revolution
The festival that promised so much and delivered so little, launching spectacularly with a lineup that included Van Halen, Alice Cooper, Bad Religion and more just seemed too good to be true. And it was. When the Van Halen reunion failed to materialise the festival was left without its headline forcing the promoters to abandon the festival with their tails between their legs.

Winner: Virgin Australia announces new baggage deal for bands
Virgin Australia stole the spotlight at BIGSOUND this year by announcing new baggage deals for bands effective by the end of the year. The deal would see bands being able to travel for only a fraction of the cost than with other airlines, and changed the rules so that bands could share baggage allowance between each member.

Runner-Up: Foo Fighters upstage the Westboro Baptist Church
Fundamentalist church group the Westboro Baptist Church announced back in September that they planned on picketing the Foo Fighters gig in Kansas City, USA due to the bands repeated promotion of 'fornication, adultery, idolatry, fags.' Not to be outdone the Dave Grohl fronted band decided to ambush the picketing church group playing an impromptu gig as gay truckers singing 'Keep It Clean', a tribute song to same-sex love.

Winner: Spicks and Specks comes to an end
Much loved ABC music trivia/comedy/variety show Spicks and Specks hung up its instruments and called it a day this year. The show had been a fixture on music fans’ TV screens on a Wednesday night for the last seven years. Presenters Adam Hills and Myf Warhurst said they decided they'd rather end the show on a high note.

Runner-Up: Amy Winehouse dies
After years of battling alcohol and drug addiction, British soul superstar Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London flat in July. Early reports pinned the death of alcohol withdrawal after the singer was trying to launch a comeback however the official report from the coroner in October blamed excessive alcohol consumption. At the time of her death Winehouse had a blood alcohol level of 416mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood, more than 5 times the legal drink drive limit in the UK.

Wanker Of The Year
Courtney Love
Let's see. Where do we start with Courtney Love? Starting back in March she settled in court with a disgruntled fashion designer she defamed on Twitter, costing her $430,00. But that was just Love warming up, over the next few months she embarked on a series of publicity stunts like announcing she wanted to snort Kurt Cobain's ashes, revealing that Kurt was well equipped downstairs, blaming Charlie Sheen for her problems with heroin, and getting sued for accusing her law firm of taking bribes after they insisted she stay off drugs.
A little closer to home she pulled out of 2012's Soundwave festival after she found out that Limp Bizkit were billed above her, before embarking on a bizarre tirade on stage in Brazil and admitting to credit card fraud backstage in an attempt to fuck over Dave Grohl. Yeah, she's a bitch.
Wanker Of The Year
360 & Short Stack
Both propelled to headlines after 360 filmed a totally out of the blue attack on fellow V Artist Of The Year nominees Short Stack claiming he'd rather 'chop off his cock' than listen to the band. Short Stack quickly filmed a comeback video making fun of the fact that 360 looked like he was peaking out of his mind. It was mildly amusing but did come off as just a little too stage managed for our liking. For the record, 360 won the award.

Most Disappointing Release
Winner: Lulu by Metallica and Lou Reed
This was always going to go one of two ways. Turns out it was terrible, something everybody knew from the first 30 second preview they released of single 'The View' back in September. Since then they had their posters banned on the London Underground, Metallica admitted that Lou Reed made them cry in the studio, and Reed received death threats from disgruntled metal fans. But none of this really matters because the numbers speak for themselves; the album was a huge flop selling just over 12,000 copies in its first week.
