Moonlighting Musicians & Their Bizarre Second Careers
This week it was announced that Daniel Johnston would be collaborating with urban designer Supreme on a line of t-shirts based on Johnston's drawings. Technically, this makes Johnston a fashion designer. We started wondering what other musicians get up to when they're not on stage or in the studio and have complied a list of the most random second jobs musicians have had. It seems nothing is off limits for these musicians with artists like Moby, Akon and Lana Del Ray moonlighting in some pretty bizarre ways.
Daniel Johnston – Fashion Designer the man who spurred this slideshow, Johnston’s artistic talents are being used to deign a range of t-shirts for Desire, a company who work in cahoots with Odd Future.
Jamie Foxx - Avocado Farmer: Jamie Foxx: avocado farmer the famous singer/actor has also dipped his tow in profitable agriculture having bought an avocado farm a few years ago. Other famous avocado farmers include Tom Selleck.
Bono & The Edge of U2 The lead singer and guitarist of U2 also co-own a famous hotel in Ireland which is frequented by celebrities and fans alike who stay hoping to get a glimpse of the famous duo.
Akon - Diamond Mine Owner: – diamond mine owner: the rapper also moonlights as a diamond mine owner. Of his controversial past time, Akon says, “"I don't even believe in conflict diamonds. People believe everything they read or see on TV. “
John Hartford - Steamboat pilot: The legendary bluegrass musician was an avid steamboat pilot having once said that he considered making it his career “but music got in the way”.
Lana Del Ray - Babysitter: The songstress has admitted to still having the same babysitting job she's had since before she became famous. " I babysit twice a week. When I'm here… that's what I do, because it's something I've been doing for a while"
Madonna – children’s book author: from the woman who brought us the book about sex has released five kids books so, two of which debuted at #1 on the New York Times best seller list.
Peter Gabriel – Hardware manufacturer: Gabriel recently purchased Solid State Logic one of the world’s largest producers of recording studio hardware.
Chimes (The Clash) – Chiropractor: The former drummer for The Clash has become a qualified chiropractor post-fame.
Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) – Commercial Airline Pilot/Professional Fencer The lead singer seems to have had every job under the sun inclusing being a marketing director, commercial pilot, Olympic-grade fencer, and screenwriter.
Kris Kristofferson – Helicopter Pilot: The famous country music singer has also worked as a helicopter pilot after getting trained while in the army. “I would work a week flying helicopters, then I'd go back to Nashville at the end of the week and spend a week up there trying to pitch the songs.”
Moby – Teamaker: famous vegan and addict of anything green owns a tea company which produces and distributes organic tea all over the world.
