The Delta Riggs & Money For Rope – Double Vision Tour Diary Week 2

This week saw us take in the wonderful state of Victoria for 3 fun filled shows with our cohorts Money For Rope. Being our home for the past few years we always love playing here in Melbourne. Something about it feels really authentic, it's definitely the music capital of Australia as many people often suggest.

Thursday afternoon Elliott and I had a little scare due to storms coming out of Sydney, all flights were shut down until further notice. The last few times we have flown together there has been some sort of hectic natural circumstance that prevents us from departing on time. Last week it was 60-70km/h winds and today it was an electrical storm. It must be an omen to stop traveling together. Anyway after downing a couple beers in the lounge our flight finally departed and we got to the Northcote Social Club 30 minutes prior to us going on stage. Crisis averted.

Tonights attendance was a little flat considering, but we still managed to have a good fucking go of it. We got something going towards the end of the set but it was a lot of hard work. Sometimes this happens, my motto is that you play consistently regardless if there are three or three hundred people in the room. So we did just that. We kept tonight pretty tame as we had a 4 hour drive to Warrnambool the next day... We arrived to The Loft really late (as usual) and the promoter had baked us cookies. What a sweetheart. They were delicious and lasted all of 5 minutes. It was a solid crowd in attendance tonight albeit heavily male skewed. Our new little buddy Frazer A Gorman was entertaining everyone early, stating that when he was " Young and uncool he used to be heaps into World War 2 and his mum thought he was weird". The guy is hilarious and a real character, check him out should you get the chance.

We met our sound guy for the night and were warned that he is usually either "Too stoned" OR " Not stoned enough" so he is usually in some sort of weird mood. Well, let me tell you he was a cowboy. Cracking it at everything, yelling at us to hurry up and just getting generally shitty, he was the best. Tristan came out of toilet shocked at a conversation he overheard, something along the lines of - "You love her don't ya?" "Na man I just rooted her a few times aye" to which another guy replied " Fuck off! I rooted her too! Na just joking aye". Ah the folk of Warnambool are an interesting bunch.

We had a great show though and got invited to some house party down the street. We opted to instead go back to our hotel and proceed to get fucking panelled with the Money For Roper lads until 7am the next morning. We made some half assed attempt at leaving a note on our door for reception:

" Hi, Please allow a grace period due to circumstances out of our control. 12:10pm. We will visit reception and accommodate for any inconvenience served. Kind Regards, The Delta Riggs."

Somehow they made sense of this ramble as they left us alone to sleep until 1pm...

After collecting our dishevelled selves we headed to an old fashioned country pub to get some lunch. I was so hungry that it affected my mood so I got ignored for the 30 minute wait until our food arrived. We then started on the 2-hour drive toward Ballarat. As we were driving through the middle of nowhere, this beautiful mountain appeared. It was so perfectly round and looked inviting so I suggested we stop and climb it.

We pulled the van over and all started trekking to the top of this enamouring beast in full rock gear - tight jeans, leather boots and jackets. Silly move. After climbing 3 barbed fences and proceeding up the steep incline, we came to the realisation that this wasn't going to be as easy as first thought. Jump forward 30 minutes and we finally reached the top, it was quite a view from up there, there was an eagle soaring just above us scoping us out then the storm started rolling in. It bucketed rain on us unrelentingly, we had to make our way back down the cliff face with howling winds and sideways rain. What a nightmare. We were absolutely soaked when we got back to the van. I would have been dryer if I had have just jumped into a pool fully clothed. This little adventure really brought us closer together though. We were all in it together. Band bonding rocks.

Last time we played Ballarat a fight between the bar manager and the door guy broke out in the middle of the club. We were hoping that something else wild would happen tonight but a Chicken & Sweet corn soup is as wild as tonight got. After our intense night prior and out mountain climbing efforts we were all in much need of a rest and headed back to Melbourne after the show. Next week we hit QLD and we are looking forward to it immensely..
