Anyone who witnessed NYC group Battles at the Big Day Out in 2008, at their sold-out Sydney Festival Becks Bar show in the same year, or at either of their sold-out Sydney Opera House Opera Theatre shows for the inaugural Brian Eno curated Luminous (nee Vivid) festival in 2009 will testify to their greatness as a live act. The former four-piece (now a three piece) are like a force of nature, rhythmically compelling and visually stimulating using both their skill as musicians and the technology available to them to create a sound and presentation of all their own invention.

Battles return to Australia in 2012 to perform at all six Big Day Out Festivals and for headline appearances in Sydney and Melbourne. These will be the band’s first Australian appearances since 2009 and the first since the release earlier this year of their second album Gloss Drop, a ten-track odyssey that includes cameo performances from electronic pioneer Gary Numan, Blonde Redhead vocalist Kazu Makino and underground dance music hero Matias Aguayo.

Don’t miss Battles live this January. Tickets for both shows are on-sale November 28th.

Driving beats and rockin bass that draws you in… Frantic and fast Fugazi style strumming to finger picked solos and even some wah thrown in for good ol warm and fuzzy measure… At times they were punked up and furious with short and sharp songs, then they’d throw in some hints of stoner or some dirty swamp blues and that got me really hooked. Fuckin’ awesome solo’s as well!” – Something Sweet To Throw Away

“Their ballsy rock sound drips with attitude and disclaim that fills every inch of the room. Their menacing presence is unmistakable as they throw themselves and their instruments around the stage while a growing crowd of nodding heads builds before them.” – Stephan White / Veri.Live Magazine

“Awesome! Such a good riff, and just as you’re thinking it’s gonna fall into boring predictable rock territory that pre-chorus lifts if out, just in the nick of time.” RAIN – Lindsay McDougall, Triple J

The best parts of punk and sludgy rock seems like an odd pair… you obviously haven’t heard Fangs.
Fangs have spent the last year developing their own sound, recording, playing shows and establishing a reputation within the local scene as a solid rock outfit that knows how to party and make your ears bleed.
Recently, the band have scored support slots with some of Australia’s top bands including The Meanies, Gyroscope, Trial Kennedy, Cockfight Shootout, Hoss, The Screaming Tribesmen, the Casanovas as well as international bands Them Crooked Vultures (USA) and Russian Circles (USA).

2010 saw the independent release of Fangs debut release, the One Punch / Rain double A side single. In 2011 the band continued to smash it releasing their first album The Junkyard. Veri.live Magazine released a 7” vinyl split with The Meanies and Fangs featuring “one punch” this was released on Issue 3 of the Magazine. Fangs were also featured on the fist2face aussie sampler.
Having just finished recording new tracks at Birdland Studios in Melbourne the band are hanging to hit the road with their new single ‘Monsters’ Which will be available on iTunes from the 25th of October, along with iTunes Fangs will also be releasing a 7” Vinyl and CD available for purchase at the shows and Bandcamp.

Royston Vasie are set to release their highly anticipated debut album in 2012, but in the meantime fans can wet their appetite with the release of new single ‘That’s My Girl’ and a string of dates to showcase their new material.

The last 12 months have been amazing ride for the thundering four piece from Melbourne. With reviews likening the band to formidable acts like the Pixies, Nirvana and Mclusky, and having played alongside The Cruel Sea, Kimbra, British India, Wolf & Cub, the John Steel Singers and more, Royston Vasie have been sternly marked as one to watch.

Following on the success of the debut EP ‘Welcome to the Pop Boutique’ which was added to high rotation on Triple J and is constantly on the jukebox in the Tone Deaf office, Royston Vasie will release their brand new single ‘That’s My Girl’ on November 11.

Irrepressible Sydney trio Step-Panther have announced an East Coast tour to launch their debut album. The self-titled record, which is released early November on Speak N Spell (via Inertia), will be sent into the stratosphere via the band’s first-ever headline jaunt (as well as a couple of special in-store appearances at red eye records on November 3 and Polyester Records on November 4).

Recorded in a tiny garden-shed studio in Enmore and mixed in an abandoned radio station in Berlin, “Step-Panther” (the album) similarly encapsulates all that is sensationally schizophrenic about Step-Panther (the band).

The last time Crystal Castles were in Australia, front woman Alice Glass proved just how rock star she could be, ignoring doctor’s orders to cancel their appearances at the Big Days Out due to a broken ankle.

Instead, she took to the stage on crutches and continued to blow everyone’s minds with her karate-inspired antics. She’s now had some time to rest up for Crystal Castles return, joining the summer festival circuit right here in Australia.
