The last time Crystal Castles were in Australia, front woman Alice Glass proved just how rock star she could be, ignoring doctor’s orders to cancel their appearances at the Big Days Out due to a broken ankle.

Instead, she took to the stage on crutches and continued to blow everyone’s minds with her karate-inspired antics. She’s now had some time to rest up for Crystal Castles return, joining the summer festival circuit right here in Australia.

Along with the previously announced sets at Southbound festival, as well as sets at Falls Festival and Field Day, Crystal Castles will be heading to both Brisbane and Adelaide for two mega sideshows.

Well, Husky are having quite a time this year, aren’t they. They’ve been partying with Gotye, Kimbra, Devendra Banhart, Noah and the Whale and Jinja Safari, their singles “History’s Door” and “Dark Sea” have received widespread support at Triple J and community radio and the launch events for “Dark Sea” all sold out. Hooray.

Now they have officially declared October 21 the day their debut record Forever So will be dropped into the ever loving arms of their burgeoning fan base, to be followed by a headline tour to celebrate.

Recorded in the band’s own makeshift studio in a backyard bungalow, Forever So was mixed by Noah Georgeson (Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart, The Strokes) at the House of Blues Studios in LA and is described by Rolling Stone as “breathtaking in its ambition.” Not bad.

Hailing from Chilliwack, Canada, These Kids Wear Crowns have taken the scene by storm with their sing-along electro dance-pop songs.

Their debut album ‘Jumpstart’ is nothing short of pumping! “This whole album is about getting people up off their feet,” says front man/co-writer Alex Johnson.
“We always said that we wanted our music to have great energy – nothing negative. We want everyone to get on their feet and dance when they hear our songs played,” says bassist/co-writer Alan Poettcker.

The Frontier Touring Company is happy to confirm American soul sensation Aloe Blacc will tour Australia following his performances at Falls and Southbound Festivals.

The ‘Good Things’ tour will kick off on the 1st of January in Melbourne, the perfect cure for that New Year’s hangover! The tour will continue with theatre performances in Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide in the first week of January 2012.

With his mix of old soul sensibility and classic R&B musical styling Aloe Blacc is one of the most exciting artists to emerge in recent times. The unbelievably catchy track ‘I Need A Dollar’ is the first single taken from his second album Good Things and is tearing up the airwaves and charts both locally and overseas.

Having conquered Splendour in the Grass, Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears return to Australia for an encore presentation performing at the request of Golden Plains Festival and for headline shows in Sydney & Melbourne.
Formed in Austin, Texas in 2007, Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears quickly built a formidable live reputation leading to opening slots with all manner of acts from Spoon to the New York Dolls before the launch of their debut-album Tell ‘Em What Your Name Is, in 2009. Taking cues from Parliament-Funkadelic, Howlin’ Wolf, The Stooges, James Brown – even Australia’s Saints – BJL&TH delivered in spades. Their first visit to Australia came soon after in January 2010 appearing three times for the Sydney Festival as well as an appearance at the MoNA/FOMA Arts Festival in Hobart. A new album, Scandalous – featuring Living in the Jungle – was released early in 2011 and was followed by a much-talked-about series of performances at SXSW that lead to the invitation to Splendour in the Grass, and now… here they are again!

Tune-Yards is bringing her distinctive sound to Australia for the first time, playing the Corner Hotel in Melbourne and Brisbane Powerhouse, showcasing her sophomore album w h o k i l l.

Possessing an expansive sound that marries a coarse folk ingenuity with the bold pop sensibility of an R&B siren, Tune-Yards is the project of New England native, Merrill Garbus. No longer is her artful songwriting and soulful voice obscured by digital fuzz as it often was on her solo debut, Bird-Brains (2009).

Transplanting herself from Montreal to sunny Oakland, California, while touring almost non-stop for over two years, Merrill has stripped Tune-Yards away to a more precise, concentrated and vivid sound. w h o k i l l retains the honesty of the lonely bedroom confessional characteristic of her early work, but with the addition of the fangs, claws and dented metal of its new surroundings.

From a croon to a shriek to a rap to a hum, the vocal gymnastics of Tune-Yards songs remain front and centre. Now, add a beat, one full of soul and swing and wonderful imperfection. That voice infiltrates your mind, shoots down your legs and converts any ground into a dance floor.

Following the announcement that he will play as part of the Falls and Southbound festivals over New Year, Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor has announced another show in Australia, performing under the CANT moniker. The gig will be at Melbourne’s The Prince Bandroom this January, with tickets on sale now.

Playing tracks from his debut CANT release, ‘Dreams Come True’, Taylor has gathered a star-studded band to accompany on the journey. Members of the full band will include Dev Hynes (Blood Orange/Lightspeed Champion/Ex-Test Icicles), John Kirby (Sebastian Tellier’s band) and Guillermo Brown (recently played with Jamie Lidell/Arto Lindsey/Saul Williams). ‘Dreams Come True’ features Taylor collaborating with George Lewis Jr. of Twin Shadow. Taylor and Lewis wrote and recorded ‘Dreams Come True’ in just a week and a half, in a bedroom connected to what used to be Allaire Studios, where Grizzly Bear also recorded their 2009 release ‘Veckatimest’.
