For those of you who read our Snowglobe Festival guide to South Lake Tahoe’s icy New Years event you would have remembered us raving over it as “an experience that’s miles away from any event Down Under”.

While we don’t back down from those claims Snowbombing is another snow filled event that might just outdo Snowglobe in the stakes for white winter music festivals.

While South Lake Tahoe is picturesque few festivals can beat the setting that is the Austrian mountainside town of Mayrhofen. The snow-laden mountains and tall trees don’t just make for a gorgeous backdrop to the world’s finest electronic music, but it also allows for a holiday as well as a music experience.

And that’s what Snowbombing sells their festival as. They want you to ski and snowboard throughout the day with great music soundtracking the slopes and at night they want you to party hard with more great music soundtracking whatever escapades you may undertake.

Bringing together both DJs and bands the festival generally caters for electronic music fans as past acts demonstrate.

The likes of Fatboy Slim, Madness, Pendulum, Example, Tinie Tempah, Mark Ronson, Kasabian, Foals, Katy B and Disclosure have all played here in years gone by.

It’s no surprise to find the 2015 bill as scintillating as previous instalments. Just check out the bill below to see the proof.

Of course the festival hasn’t always had the level of notoriety that attracts coverage from the likes of the BBC, MTV and Eurosport.

First held at the beginning of this century in the French village of Risoul, the festival moved to Switzerland and back to France again before settling on its current location in 2005.

Since then however Snowbombing has become a world-class music event. By combining music, sport and snow punters aren’t just hitting up a festival, they’re heading out on one hell of a winter getaway.

On the other end of the scale the 6 Bed Non-Central apartment is valued at £319.00 per person and is located 5km away from the centre of the town. Although a free sky bus does run regularly at different intervals.

Snowbombing promises that closer to the date they’ll unveil their fancy dress parties that will take place throughout the festival. Keep your local Op Shop in mind, as you may need it when the themes are announced.

Regardless of your skill level when it comes to winter sports the festival has arranged the pros to come show you how it’s done. If you think you can best them there will be prizes (with the combined value of such totaling 2000 Euros). You can read about what went down last year by clicking here.

The festival has some of the most unique venues to host music. From an underground tennis centre turned into a giant nightclub to a literal street party stage and even an igloo Snowbombing leave little room for disappointment. Read more about them here.
