Drums – I Need Fun In My Life
Drums – I Need Fun In My Life @ East Brunswick Club, East Brunswick (2nd Aug 2010)
Guess how “I Need Fun In My Life” starts? Thumpy drum? Check. Twangy, wayward guitar part? Check. Understated verse before explosive chorus? YEP! And it’s FUN FUN FUN!!!
“New York’s official Coolest New Band… the most contagiously energetic NYC band of the past 10 years.” — NME
“all heart and hooks” — The New York Times
“One of the best indie pop debuts of the year” – Rolling Stone
The Drums are an American band from Brooklyn, New York, with members stemming from the shortlived band Elkland (formerly Goat Explosion).
In NME’s first issue of 2010 they were named number 1 in the magazine’s top tips for the year as well as in Clash Magazine’s Tips for 2010. The Drums were also voted ‘Best Hope for 2010′ in Pitchfork’s 2009 Readers’ Poll.
The band cite their major influences as The Smiths, Joy Division, The Wake, The Zombies, The Tough Alliance, The Legends, The Shangri-las and Orange Juice.
Really…though….seriously, I reckon they wear their SMITHS influence on their sleeve. Some of their lyrics were so uncanny similar to Morrissey, I did a spittake midway through their very entertaining gig.
