Between September 2011 and June 2014, the Red Hot Chili Peppers played 158 shows around the world – the longest stretch of touring in the band’s 33-year career – so it’s not surprising that they followed this with a two-year gig spell.

During that time off the road, the band recorded their eleventh studio album, The Getaway, the American leg of their current tour kicked off on January 5, in San Antonio, Texas.

Thanks to some enterprising fan, high-definition footage of their entire first show back can be watched below. The 17-song set features five songs from the new disc: ‘Sick Love’, ‘Dark Necessities’, Go Robot, ‘Goodbye Angels’, and title track ‘The Getaway’.

In addition they trawl through their catalogue, performing ‘Californication’, ‘Give It Away’, ‘Breaking The Girl’, the charming ‘Suck My Kiss’, and plenty more.
