Darwin alt-rock band Green Stone Garden have been wooing Top End audiences with their finely-crafted live shows, lyrical song writing and lush, layered sound. Inspired by their tropical home, Green Stone Garden’s songs are marked by a languid and heady feel, with a temperate folk sound combined with a darker shade of synth-driven rock. Bass, drums, synth and guitar underwrite lyrical narratives from frontman and songwriter, Mike Meston, whose songs seed stories like the dense growth of the Darwin Wet.

Gigging regularly at venues across Darwin – including as support for local and international artists including Gomez (UK), Jeff Martin (Canada), Dappled Cities, Big Scary and Husky – the band just won inaugural NT Song of the Year Award in the Rock category.

The band’s debut EP North, featuring the single ‘The Island’, will be released on May 15, 2013 and launched in true Top End style at the Old Town Ruins in Darwin’s CBD. The record was produced in Melbourne’s Soundpark Studios by renowned Australian producer Steven Schram (Cat Empire, San Cisco, Little Birdy).
