It’s taken five years to get him back to tour and Bluesfest Touring is thrilled to present Booker T. Jones with special guest Valerie June in two exciting sideshows.

It can be argued that it was Booker T. Jones who set the cast for modern soul music and is largely responsible for its rise and enduring popularity. On classic Stax hits like “Green Onions,” “Hang ‘Em High,” “Time Is Tight,” and “Melting Pot” the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Musicians Hall of Fame inductee and GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award recipient pushed music’s boundaries, refined it to its essence and then injected it into the nation’s bloodstream.

He has recorded with the likes of Wilson Pickett, Ray Charles, George Harrison, Sam and Dave, Neil Young, Barbra Streisand and Bob Dylan and not to mention, he features on his special guest Bluesfest Touring artist Valerie June’s latest album released this year.

This time around Booker T. Jones will be bringing his 10th album, ‘Sound the Alarm’ (2013) which sees sparkling collaborations with some of contemporary R&B’s most gifted young voices. ‘Sound the Alarm’ also marks his historic return to Stax Records, the Memphis soul label which he began recording at while he was still in school and helped put on the map in the 1960’s. In true form it has received rave reviews:
“Sound the Alarm is the sound of summer” – The Boston Review
“Booker T. Jones is the consummate musician” – USA Today

Universally recognised as one of the true architects of American soul music, we can’t wait to welcome this legendary musician back to the Bluesfest stage.
