Earlier this year the news broke that ex-Powderfinger member John Collins would open an epic new live music venue in Brisbane, which is now gearing up to open its doors for the very first time this month.

Located in the inner-city suburb of Newstead, the funky-fresh venue named The Triffid is housed in an old WW2 hanger, boasting of a 490-square metre outdoor beer garden, creating a revamped warehouse vibe with a massive 800-person capacity. Sounds super gnarley, right? Wait until you hear who they’ve got lined up to perform at the incredible space.

As of Thursday 30th October, The Triffid will test the waters with a three-night showcase, allowing eager live music fans to catch a healthy stock of local acts christen the stage, including See Hello Hokkaido, Outliers, Avaberée, The Royales, Tundra and Salvadarlings.

The official launch party has been locked in for Saturday 8th November with a mega line-up comprising of the electrifying Melbourne 9-piece Saskwatch, Brisbane indie darlings The Creases and Byron Bay locals MT Warning.

If that’s not enough, the very next day kicks off the ultimate weekly Sunday session in the beer garden entitled Triffid Roots, curated and hosted by Triple J’s Sarah Howells that will feature Pat Tierney and Liam Gerner.

Other upcoming highlights include Ed Kuepper, Paul Dempsey, Giants of Science,The Gin Club, Screamfeeder, The Delta Riggs, Megan Washington and more.

Collins has been worked tirelessly to ensure the venue will not negatively impact surrounding residential neighbours to ensure the venue’s longevity, “we have been talking to acoustic engineers to make sure it isn’t pumping out volume to the neighbours because inside we are going to have the best, professional gear and a big enough stage for decent-sized acts.”

The Triffid joins the hearty list of brand-spanking new live music venues that have popped up around the country, including Melbourne’s Shadow Electric band room that powered into full-time and Brunswick’s Railway Hotel, in Sydney there has been the addition of The Roller Den, The Hub, and The Lewisham Hotel, while in Brisbane they’ve witnessed an explosion of great venues with The Brightside and Woolly Mammoth.

The Triffid will be open from Tuesday to Sunday, playing host to a mix of national and international touring acts alongside Brisbane’s finest talent.
